The Best Coed Spa in Las Vegas: Awana Spa Review

Spa Prices

Let me get the most painful part out of the way first: pricing. Click here to view the pricing menu.

Spa Hours

Sunday – Monday
8:30 AM – 7:00 PM

The latest appointment time you can book is 5:45 pm.

Peak Hours

I arrived on a Sunday morning, which started mellow but got busy by lunchtime. By the time we left, around 3 p.m., almost every seat in the co-ed Fountain of Youth area was occupied. If you want to avoid the crowds, go in the mornings or avoid the weekends. But that advice pretty much applies to all spas. However, keep in mind that if you go on a weekday, you won’t get to experience the Sauna-meister event (keep reading if you want to know what that’s about). Oh, dilemma, dilemma.

Booking An Appointment

If the spa is fully booked on the day you want, you might still be able to snag an appointment by asking to be put on a waitlist or checking again when they open. I went in person when they opened to see if they had any last-minute cancellations and was able to get in for later that day. I feel bad for the schmuck who canceled last minute and got charged for their service + the automatic 20% gratuity, but thank you for your time slot!

Spa Pass

Massages and facials are the only services that grant access to the spa. Foot massage, stretch + recovery, and personal training sessions do not give access.

If you don’t book a massage or facial service, you can purchase a spa pass for $168 Thursday through Monday or $144 on Tuesday and Wednesday. The spa pass only grants access for 3 hours, whereas booking a service grants full-day access. Call them @ 702-676-7021 or check the website to get their most updated pricing, as prices might have changed since then.

Parking

Parking is free with a Genting Reward account, regardless of whether you’re a hotel guest. Signing up for the Genting Rewards account is free. Download the RWLV (Resorts World Las Vegas) app, then activate your account by going inside the casino to set up a PIN. You’ll need your PIN to get the free parking QR in the app.

Nearest Hotel

The Hilton, Conrad, and Crockford are all on the Resorts World property and within short walking distance of the spa. The Hilton might be the closest hotel (of the three) to the spa, but it all depends on how far down the hall your room is located from the elevators.

Awana Spa is located on Resorts World’s second level. If you’re coming from one of the guest rooms, take the elevator to the second level and follow the signs to Awana Spa. If you’re coming from the casino, take the escalators up to the second level, turn left at the top, and follow the signs to Awana Spa.

Swimsuits Are Required

Important! If you want to visit Awana Spa, remember to pack your swimsuit. They’re required in all the coed areas, which is a large portion of the spa. If you forget, you can purchase one in the spa lobby, Resort World pool area, or the Fred Segal store (near the casino). But if you’re like me and don’t want to buy an expensive new swimsuit, you’re welcome to re-create the MuseLis look: husband’s swim trunks paired with old sports bra. No one else was dressed quite like me. Be prepared to stand out from the crowd and be the envy of the spa if you choose to copy my look.

Awana Ambiance

If you’re looking for a large space with loads of amenities for all genders to enjoy together, look no further than Awana, the best-coed spa in Vegas. Even though it’s been open for a few years, it still has that delicious new spa smell and feels brand-spanking new. The coed area is very spacious and has everything you’d want in a spa: four different temperature pools, a large sauna, a salt room, and multiple lounge areas. And if you can’t already tell from the photos, the place is absolutely gorgeous inside.

Main Coed Area, aka Fountain of Youth

The coldest pool tends to attract polar bear types.

The main co-ed area is called the Fountain of Youth. There are four pools with temperatures ranging from 115℉, 102℉, 80℉ and 60℉. An easier way to distinguish the differences would be hot jacuzzi water, warm bathwater, cold pool water, and freezing ice water.

I don’t enjoy subjecting myself to icy waters, but sometimes I will for the benefits of hot/cold therapy. Awana’s cold plunge was the coldest I’ve ever experienced. After I stepped in, my body went into mini-shock. I didn’t think I could endure the freezing cold waters much longer, so I clutched onto the edge and imagined living out my final moment with Rose and Jack from the Titanic.

Don’t you give up. Don’t do it.

I’m so cold.

You’re going to die an old lady, warm in your bed.

I can’t feel my body.

Lines from the movie, Titanic

(Director’s note: both characters played by MuseLis)

As my tragic scene played out, a polar bear who had been chillin’ there for a solid 30 minutes said to me, “It gets better. You get used to it.” “Nope! I’m definitely a California summer bear,” I thought as I climbed out.

After being in the cold plunge pool, the heated loungers nearby felt like a nice, warm hug. I take that back. The heated loungers were like a big, strong bear hug because they were super hawt! It was too hot for my bare bear skin to handle but perfect with a towel or robe buffer. My only gripe was how people would save these chairs for long periods during peak hours by leaving all their stuff on top. There are only maybe eight (?) chairs for everyone in the whole spa. Geez, people. Share, please.

While sitting in one of the heated loungers or any of the four pools, you can watch an oversized panorama screen that covers the back wall and plays outdoorsy scenery videos like the ones you’d watch on treadmill virtual runs. Awana media department, if you’re reading this, please change the channel to jellyfish footage. I think that would be a soothing visual to zen out to.

Event Sauna

Filled with colored lights and relaxing music, this giant sauna was designed to accommodate their Sauna Meister event.

The Sauna Meister event is a 14-minute guided experience led by an Aufgussmeister, aka Sauna-Miester. It uses aromatherapy oils, music, towels, and sound therapy. There are two types of Sauna-Meister sessions: a relaxing one in the morning and a more energizing one in the afternoon.

The experience begins with the Aufgussmeister shaking a moistened bundle of dried chamomile (or dried lavender, depending on the session) around each individual, finishing with a graceful bow as if this is your coronation ceremony into the royal sauna family. After each attendee has been welcomed, the Aufgussmester dramatically drops and crushes an aromatherapy snowball over the hot coals. Next, they rhythmically whip around a towel like a Spanish matador to push fragrant, warm air into each person’s face. It’s much more gentle and pleasant than it sounds, I promise. Finally, they take tuning forks to vibrate healing sounds around each person. Overall, it’s such a relaxing experience and definitely made the 14 minutes fly by.

Event Sauna Times

The sauna event occurs on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday only.

  • 10:15am
  • 11:15am
  • 3pm
  • 4pm

Event times might change, so I suggest confirming when you check in. The person I spoke to over the phone quoted different times than the person who checked me in. Go figure.

Salt Therapy

The official name is “Crystal Laconium with salt therapy.” Let’s just call it the “salty room” because you’ll walk out feeling salty (in a good way). There’s a button near the door to activate the salty air circulation. If you wanna read up on the salty room benefits, read here. Otherwise, imagine yourself as the captain of your own private UFO.

Foot Spa Lounge

The Foot Spa Lounge is where you can sit back in one of the comfy recliner chairs and watch multiple side-by-side TV screens. If you’re hungry, you can purchase juices and snack bentos from the menu. Otherwise, free snacks are provided just outside the Foot Spa Lounge. Most people are in the Foot Spa Lounge waiting to get picked up for their appointment, which made the name of the lounge a bit confusing, in my opinion.

Menus can be found in the Foot Spa Lounge.

Food & Beverage

An assortment of free snacks.

The snack bar in the coed area had apples, oranges, dried mangos, dried pineapples, Siracha pretzels, nuts, and my favorite, peanut brittle. The one and only time I felt really stressed out during my spa day was when the chick in front of me was taking the last few pieces of dried mango. Nooooooo, my lunch! That’s why I highly recommend eating before you arrive if you plan to stay more than a few hours or through mealtime because there are no in-and-out privileges. Once you leave Awana Spa, you cannot come back in. No innies and outies! Except on naked bellies, of course.

Nifty sparking and still water dispenser.

Surprisingly, the spa had only one citrus-infused water dispenser and no hot tea. I was a bit disappointed because I like to enjoy a nice cup of tea while I’m relaxing. Hopefully, that will eventually change. But for now, no one’s gonna be spilling tea inside this Awana.

Standing version of the experiential shower.

In the co-ed area, there’s a walk-thru and a standing version of the experiential shower. There are also a couple more standing versions in the women-only and men-only areas. You can experience two types of torrential rain effects, arctic or tropical, both with special lighting.

Women-Only & Men-Only Areas

Womens-only jacuzzi

There’s a hot tub in the women’s (and men’s) area, but I hardly saw anyone using it. Bathing suits are optional in these areas. The steam room is also in the women’s-only and men’s-only areas. I didn’t get a photo of the steam room, but it was the prettiest I’ve ever seen, covered in beautiful abalone shell tiles.

You can find all of the following in the women’s-only and men’s-only areas:

  • Steam room
  • Jacuzzi
  • Experiential Showers
  • Toilets
  • Showers
  • Lockers
  • Wet swimsuit spinner

MuseLis’ Final Thoughts

Would I go again? YES! Awana is among the best coed spas in Vegas, in my opinion, especially for couples and mixed-gender groups. Even if you’re not looking for a coed spa, I think Awana is still worth visiting if you’re staying at Resorts World. And to be honest, I’d still make the trek over to Awana, even if I wasn’t a hotel guest, because it’s that good.
